It was so fun today! We volunteered to help the kids for our NSTP activity and let me just tell you how awesome that is!
At first I was worried to scare the kids away since I’m not fond of them, but I have a little brother and sister so I repeated the mantra that I made for myself to “Do this like how I would do for my brother and sister” then thank god the kid that I helped out was so nice and polite.
I also have a partner for this activity and her name is Breccia, Brex for short and she’s as equally nice as our kid, Abneer.
Abneer is a 14 year old kid who is a grade 1 student in his school which is just near the venue today.
Breccia on the other hand is a UP graduate and her favorite ice cream and desert are Ube ice cream and cheesecake.
Abneer’s are mungo ice cream and any cake. The three of us clicked like perfect combinations and we helped each other with all the tasks.
Abneer’s also the kid who cooperates well with the other kids. He’s shy but he knows how to fit in.
While the chef was demonstrating in front, Abneer and I were playing on the phone- I admit that we didn’t listen to the chef in front and I apologize for that.
Jeremy Tan, my NSTP classmate joined us and we talked a lot of things. It was random at first until Abneer confessed the reason he was there.
Jeremy adviced Abneer while I listened. I thank Jeremy for talking freely about this kind of problem and I feel bad for not saying anything about it other than supporting the two of them.
Anyway, after that little talk, Jeremy’s kid joined us and his name is Adrian.
Jeremy joked that Adrian’s a future tattoo artist and I was immediately stoked to hear that since tattoos are my thing and I saw Adrian’s drawings on his leg and was kind of giddy about it.
Jeremy left us and Abneer, Adrian and I played around on my phone. Taking selfies and taking photos of everyone around us.
Then I let Adrian draw a human being and he was like “Oh ate di po ako marunong.” (“Oh ate, I don’t know how.”)
And I promised to teach him in which he happily replied with, “Sige po ate. Ako po muna!” (“Sure ate, I’ll go first”)
And he drew a girl. I was actually shocked to see his drawing because it was pretty. Too bad I didn’t took a photo of it.
Then he drew a guy on the other page. Just as he was about to finish, we were all told to stand up and start baking.
Abneer and Adrian were quick to stand. Then one of the ates in our group told them to wash their hands first in which they quickly ran to the nearest faucet to wash their hands.
Abneer and Adrian came back and I teased Adrian by pretending to sprinkling him water and he dodged and laughed.
The baking part was VERY fun. Abneer and 7 other kids including Adrian took turns.
I found out that Abneer loves to dance because I saw him dancing when music started playing in the background. (Adrian loves drawing, may I put that out there as well).
Too bad I have to leave early with some of my classmates, including my cousin who I brought with since she loves helping kids out. (Her kid’s name is Jerome, he’s very shy but he’s cute!)
I asked ate Brex and Abneer to have a picture with them together in the photobooth before I leave and they agreed.
Abneer prepped himself with large dorky glasses and a funky hat while ate Brex just wore the large dorky glasses and I wore the funky hat that Abneer helped picked out.
We waited for our turn and practiced posing. We were immediately next and we posed for the camera.
Too bad they only had one copy so I let Abneer have it together with the mona that my group and I prepared to give to our kids.
Adrian saw me giving Abneer one so he asked as well. I gave him my favorite toasted bread that I planned to eat after the activity and told him to share it with Abneer.
He said it was fine and I bid him goodbye. I saw the smile in his face drop and deep inside I felt sad to see that.
But he smiled again and said goodbye. I took that as a cue to leave and told ate Brex that I’m leaving.
